Shravan Mela at Baidyanath Dham is one of the largest and most important religious fairs in India. Held during the holy month of Shravan (July–August), the mela attracts millions of devotees, known as Kanwariyas, from different parts of the country.
The festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and devotees undertake a sacred pilgrimage to offer holy Ganga water to Baba Baidyanath Jyotirlinga.
Shravan month is considered highly sacred for the worship of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu beliefs, offering Ganga water on the Shivling during this month brings blessings, prosperity, peace, and fulfillment of wishes.
Baidyanath Dham is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and also an important Shakti Peeth, making the Shravan Mela spiritually significant for millions of devotees.
The Shravan Mela is closely connected with the Kanwar Yatra.
Devotees collect holy Ganga water from Sultanganj in Bihar and walk nearly 100–105 kilometers barefoot to Deoghar carrying decorated Kanwars.
